Kwankwaso: Obi’s Popularity Giving Tinubu Sleepless Nights

Vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabi’u Kwankwaso, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu is unsettled by the growing influence of Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Kwankwaso said Obi’s popularity in the South, combined with NDC’s mobilisation efforts in the North, has made the President increasingly concerned about his chances.
“Peter Obi is popular in the South, and we are mobilising our people in the North. Even the President is concerned about our candidate, and he has been having sleepless nights because of him,” Kwankwaso stated.
He argued that Tinubu is leaning heavily on governors to shore up his campaign, while many political actors previously considered election manipulation but now believe the NDC has built a formidable coalition.
Kwankwaso highlighted the strength of the Kwankwasiyya movement and other supporters rallying behind Obi, insisting that their combined efforts position the NDC strongly for victory.
“All of them believe that we will win the election. The Kwankwasiyya and people who believe in this country are supporting us. Together, we have a very formidable team,” he said.
