Kacey Musgraves Calls Columbus a ‘Loser’ During Dallas Show

Kacey Musgraves turned a holiday-eve concert into a flashpoint, and the internet has not stopped talking about it.

During the second of two back-to-back shows at Dallas’ American Airlines Center on Sunday, Musgraves paused her Middle of Nowhere tour set to note that the following day was Columbus Day. Fans quickly booed and shouted back that Monday belonged to Indigenous Peoples’ Day, and the eight-time GRAMMY winner wasted no time siding with the crowd.

“Yeah, no, yeah, yeah, actually, obviously f**k Columbus. Literally the lamest person to probably ever exist. Like for real. What a loser,” Musgraves said. Moments later, she doubled down: “You’re a loser, Christopher Columbus, we hate you!”

Footage of the exchange spread rapidly across social media, drawing cheers from some viewers and outrage from others. Breitbart News covered the moment in a report by Alana Mastrangelo-Wrask, while The Western Journal ‘s Jack Davis framed it as the latest skirmish in the nation’s ongoing culture wars. Online reactions ranged widely, with some fans applauding her candor and critics accusing her of trashing history.

An entire generation of spoiled brats who’ve never built anything, stand on the crumbling empire they don’t deserve, built by great and courageous men who are now judged through the moral lens of the softest dorks living in the easiest times. Oy vey. pic.twitter.com/CfH7pPZHII

Former Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt weighed in Tuesday, reposting the video and taking aim at what he described as “an entire generation of spoiled brats.”

Columbus was not the only controversy of the weekend. Texas Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico attended her Saturday show in Dallas and later shared photos with Musgraves. Former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem knocked the pairing on X Monday, pitting Musgraves against Ella Langley and backing Republican Ken Paxton in the race. Musgraves fired back with a pointed jab at Noem’s admission, in her 2024 memoir No Going Back , that she shot her dog, Cricket.

The outspoken moments fit a familiar pattern for Musgraves, who has long carved her own path in the music business, from genre-blending records to speaking her mind onstage. She opened the tour in August by urging fans to help children whose parents had been deported. She also has five nominations at this year’s CMA Awards, including Album of the Year for Middle of Nowhere .

The tour is now in its final stretch. After a Tuesday stop in Denver, Musgraves plays Salt Lake City’s Delta Center on Thursday before closing with two nights in Seattle on Oct. 26 and 27.
