Gov Radda Seeks Sustained TETFund Support for Katsina Institutions

……Commends Fund’s Impact on Tertiary Education, Thanks President Tinubu for Sustaining Funding

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has called for sustained support from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for tertiary institutions in Katsina State, commending the Fund for its significant contributions to educational development, particularly its interventions at the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Funtua.

The Governor made the appeal on Thursday while delivering a goodwill message at TETFund’s Second National Town Hall Meeting in Abuja. The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of TETFund’s Board of Trustees and former Katsina State Governor, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, to showcase the Fund’s achievements, promote accountability and strengthen public engagement on tertiary education funding.

Governor Radda said his attendance reflected his respect for Masari’s leadership and his administration’s appreciation of TETFund’s sustained support for educational development in Katsina State.

“I am here for two major reasons. First, this is an event chaired by my former boss, the former Governor of Katsina State and Chairman of the TETFund Board of Trustees, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, whose leadership and contributions I deeply respect. Secondly, I am here to express our profound appreciation for the invaluable support TETFund continues to provide to our tertiary institutions,” he said.

The Governor noted that TETFund’s interventions had become critical to strengthening educational infrastructure, improving teaching and learning environments, and enhancing the capacity of tertiary institutions to deliver quality education.

“One can only imagine the challenges our tertiary institutions would face without these critical interventions. We are deeply grateful for the support TETFund has continued to extend to our institutions, as these investments are essential to the growth and advancement of higher education,” he explained.

He particularly appreciated TETFund’s support for the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Funtua, describing the institution as an important addition to the higher education landscape of Katsina State and the wider North-West region.

Governor Radda stressed that sustained investment in tertiary education was essential to expanding opportunities for young people, strengthening academic institutions and developing the skilled workforce required to drive Nigeria’s economic growth, scientific innovation and technological advancement.

He also commended the Chairman of TETFund’s Board of Trustees, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, for his leadership and continued engagement with stakeholders committed to advancing education across the country.

“I appreciate everyone who has honoured this important invitation. The presence of many distinguished personalities here demonstrates the respect and support enjoyed by my former boss, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari. We sincerely appreciate his leadership and the cordial relationships he continues to maintain in the collective interest of educational development,” he said.

The Governor further acknowledged the contributions of heads of tertiary institutions, noting that their dedication, alongside TETFund’s interventions and government support at all levels, remained vital to improving educational standards, institutional performance and the overall quality of higher education.

He called for stronger collaboration among the Federal Government, state governments, TETFund and tertiary institutions to ensure that investments in education translate into lasting benefits for students and the nation.

Governor Radda also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the continued funding of TETFund, noting that sustained financial backing was necessary to maintain critical interventions, strengthen tertiary institutions and secure the future of higher education in Nigeria.

He reaffirmed the Katsina State Government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that improve educational infrastructure, expand access to quality learning and equip young people with the knowledge and skills required for a productive future.

Those in attendance included former senate president, Senator Ahmed Lawan; Senator Pius Anyim Pius; the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Said Ahmed; the Chief of Staff to the Katsina State Governor, Hon. Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir; members of the Katsina State Executive Council; and members of the House of Representatives representing Rimi, Charanchi and Batagarawa, Hon. Usman Murtala Banye, and Musawa/Matazu, Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Ahmed.

Others included Dujiman Katsina; Shamsu Sule Funtua; Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah; Barrister Umar El-Marzuk; and other distinguished personalities and stakeholders in the education sector.
