The Osun State Police Command has arrested six suspected cultists during intelligence-led raids on criminal hideouts in Osogbo, the state capital, as security operatives intensify efforts to tackle cult-related violence.
The suspects were allegedly linked to the Eiye Confraternity and a criminal gang accused of terrorising residents around Mackay Junction in Osogbo.
Police operatives also recovered suspected charms, illicit drugs and cash believed to be proceeds from drug-related activities.
The police spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed the arrests in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
He said the operation targeted identified black spots and hideouts suspected to be used by criminal elements.
The arrested suspects were identified as Ajibade Lateef, 21; Olaniyi Kabiru, 27; Ifaleke Ifedeji, 18; Tajudeen Wasiu, 35; Abideen Babatunde, 35; and Opeyemi Lukman, 18.
According to the police, preliminary investigations linked the suspects to the Eiye Confraternity and a gang allegedly responsible for threatening public safety in the Mackay Junction area.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan Zungura, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and maintaining peace across the state.
He urged parents, guardians, landlords and community leaders to remain alert and report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station.
Zungura also warned young people against cultism, drug abuse and criminal associations, stressing that such activities could expose them to serious legal consequences.
The command said the raids would continue across identified criminal hideouts until suspected offenders were removed and security improved in Osogbo and other parts of Osun State.
The arrests come amid renewed concerns over cult-related violence in the state capital.
In a previous incident, police confirmed that two people died following a clash involving suspected rival cult groups at a lounge in Owoeba, along the Osogbo-Ilesa Road.
The attackers were reportedly unidentified, while the incident added to concerns about the threat posed by cult-related activities in the area.
The latest operation forms part of ongoing police efforts to curb criminal activities and protect residents across Osun State.
