Grassley Memo Reveals Biden DOJ Collected Personal Data On 639,000 Republican Voters And Donors

In America, you’re supposed to be able to support any candidate, donate to any cause, and vote your conscience without the federal government quietly assembling a dossier on you.

That’s not a partisan talking point. It’s the entire premise of the First Amendment. It’s why generations of Americans fought and bled to keep this republic free from the kind of government surveillance that defines every tin-pot dictatorship on earth.

So what happens when the machinery of federal law enforcement gets aimed not at criminals but at everyday citizens whose great offense was contributing a few bucks to the wrong political party? Thanks to a Senate investigation that’s been peeling back layers for over a year, we now have an answer – and it demands a reckoning.

FIRST ON FOX: A new memo obtained by Fox News Digital alleges that former President Joe Biden’s Justice Department collected information on hundreds of thousands of Republican voters and donors.

The memo is part of an update from Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and his investigation into former special counsel Jack Smith and his Arctic Frost probe, which was launched by Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) in 2022 to investigate efforts to overturn results of the 2020 election.

That summary barely scratches the surface of what Grassley’s memo actually reveals.

639,000 Americans and counting

Let the scope of this settle in your mind. Smith’s special counsel office and Biden’s DOJ obtained spreadsheets containing data on over 639,000 individuals. More than 148,000 of those were identified as donors – most of them small-dollar contributors.

We’re not talking about political operatives or Washington insiders. The occupations listed in the data paint a very different picture: retirees, pool technicians, drivers, and loggers. People who mowed their lawns on Saturday and maybe tossed a few dollars toward a candidate they believed in.

The personal information harvested on these Americans was jaw-dropping in its granularity – names, dates of birth, home addresses, email addresses, voter registration status, occupation, employer, credit card information, and donation amounts.

According to the Deseret News, the government’s haul also included Trump campaign personnel records, a catalogue of campaign merchandise, and – I wish I were joking – the individual purchase and shipping records of people who bought red MAGA hats. Some of this data stretched all the way back to 2005. Donald Trump didn’t even ride down that golden escalator until 2015.

This wasn’t a focused criminal probe. It was a political census.

The buck stops with Biden

Here’s the part that too many people in Washington want to gloss over. Jack Smith didn’t appoint himself. He was installed by Biden’s Attorney General. Arctic Frost was a Biden-era DOJ operation from conception to execution. There’s no separating the two.

Grassley nailed it: “This update shows that Jack Smith and the Biden Justice Department collected incredibly invasive donor data – and voter data – beyond what could conceivably be necessary for him or his team to fulfill the special counsel’s mandate.” He went further, saying the findings “corroborate that Smith and his partisan team aimed to map out the entire Republican Party apparatus.”

Utah Sen. Mike Lee – whose own phone records were swept up in the probe, by the way – didn’t mince words either. He called it a “disgraceful weaponization of the justice system for a partisan witch hunt,” adding that Smith targeted “not only President Trump, his family, staff, and members of Congress, but hundreds of thousands of patriotic Americans across the country.”

And what did Smith say when pressed under oath? He admitted it plainly: “Yes. We acquired financial information.” His defense was that January 6th constituted “one of the most serious crimes that’s ever happened in our nation’s history.” Fine. But that rationale doesn’t come within a mile of explaining why federal investigators needed the credit card numbers and home addresses of retirees who donated a few dollars to a campaign.

Imagine for one moment that Trump’s DOJ had compiled detailed personal files on 639,000 Democratic donors. Every major newsroom would have combusted spontaneously. The hypocrisy isn’t subtle. It’s structural.

A warning to every American

Don’t fool yourself into thinking this is exclusively a Republican problem. If the government can build a database of every GOP donor and hat buyer today, it can do the same to any political movement tomorrow.

We’ve watched this movie before – the IRS targeting Tea Party groups, the FBI surveilling civil rights leaders. Federal agencies have a well-documented habit of punishing people for their politics when nobody’s watching.

That quiet intimidation works. How many Americans will hesitate before donating to a candidate now, knowing the DOJ might be logging their purchase?

Grassley is right to demand that Democrats stop providing cover for Jack Smith and join the oversight effort. But hearings alone won’t cut it. Joe Biden presided over a Justice Department that treated hundreds of thousands of law-abiding citizens as investigative targets. The American people deserve a full accounting – and an honest answer to an old question: What did Biden know, and when did he know it?

Key Takeaways
