Two dead following separate weekend crashes

Two men lost their lives in separate single-vehicle accidents over the weekend, according to the Louisiana State Police.
The first crash occurred on Saturday just before 9 p.m. on Interstate 10 East near mile marker 37. Investigators said a 2020 Kenworth T680 commercial truck veered off the road. The driver overcorrected, causing the semi-truck to re-enter the highway and overturn.
The driver, a 47-year-old man from Alton, Texas, was wearing his seatbelt but sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene, said Trooper Roy Jones.
The second crash happened less than two hours later in Iowa, La. At about 10:30 p.m., troopers responded to an incident on La. 3059 near Jeff Davis Ward Line Road. A 2026 Dodge Durango traveling eastbound failed to navigate a left-hand curve, plunged into a ditch, and flipped over.
The driver, a 75-year-old man from Pensacola, Fla., was properly restrained but died from his injuries at the scene.
Two passengers, who were also wearing seatbelts, survived with minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital.
State Police confirmed that toxicology samples were taken for analysis in both incidents, as impairment remains unknown. Both crashes are still under active investigation.
