Melvin Joseph Gray Jr.

Melvin Joseph Gray Jr. passed away on Oct. 5, 2026, at the age of 79, in Lake Charles, La. surrounded by his loved ones.

Melvin was born on Oct. 12, 1946 in Lake Charles, La., to Melvin Gray and Theresa Gray. He graduated from W.O. Boston High School and dedicated years to a fulfilling career as a Plant Operator at Firestone, where he was deeply respected by colleagues.

He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather. Melvin brought joy to everyone he met and never met a stranger.

Melvin is survived by his wife of 57 years, Geraldine Gray; children, Raquel Gray and Jahmal Gray, and his grandchildren, Cicily Malbrough, Ashley Coleman, Melanie Edwards, Jacia Carrier, Dejane’ Callegari, and Alajiah Ryman. He is survived by his sister, Michelle Gray and he is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Gray and Theresa Gray, as well as his brothers, Al Gray and Therel Gray.

Viewing begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, Combre Funeral Home, followed by a mass at St. Henry Catholic Church at 11 a.m.
