Trump Cancels Plan to Livestream Fort Hood Shooter’s Execution After Backlash

WASHINGTON (AURN News) — Americans will no longer be able to watch the planned execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan online. President Donald Trump canceled the planned livestream Thursday following criticism that reached into his own party.

The former Army psychiatrist remains scheduled to face a firing squad Dec. 3 for killing 13 people at Fort Hood, Texas, in 2009.

Trump maintained that broadcasting the execution could deter terrorism but acknowledged objections to showing someone die.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had previously announced plans to livestream the execution.

Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., condemned the proposal, and religious leaders also pushed back.

For survivors, the debate carried a personal cost. Keara Torkelson, who was wounded in the Fort Hood shooting, told ABC News that victims and survivors should not have to relive the attack through a public spectacle.
