A Durham hotel is preparing to paint the town red with the launch of an immersive dining experience that promises to turn dinner into a work of art.

Radisson Blu Durham is bringing 7 Paintings to the city for the first time, combining seven courses inspired by world-famous artists with 3D projections, interactive challenges and edible artwork.

Launching on Saturday, November 28, the experience will transform the hotel’s dining room into a virtual gallery, with famous masterpieces brought to life across tables, plates and surrounding walls.

Guests will be invited to solve Leonardo da Vinci’s riddles, identify famous artists and even unleash their inner Jackson Pollock by creating colourful paintings using edible ingredients.

The seven-course menu, prepared by the hotel’s kitchen team, takes inspiration from artists including Michelangelo, Banksy, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Salvador Dalí and Vincent van Gogh.

Dishes range from salmon rillette and sea bream to grilled beef tenderloin, crema catalana and a chocolate-themed finale inspired by Van Gogh.

One of the more unusual courses invites diners to create their own vegetable masterpiece, adding a hands-on twist to the evening.

Lasting around two-and-a-half to three hours, the experience is being introduced ahead of the festive season, offering an alternative Christmas celebration for friends, families and work colleagues.

Stuart Lloyd, general manager at Radisson Blu Durham, said: “When we first saw 7 Paintings, the whole team had the same reaction: Durham needs this.

“People don’t just want a nice meal anymore; they want an experience they can share.

“7 Paintings is part dinner, part theatre and part art gallery and it gives our kitchen team the chance to create seven courses inspired by some of the world’s best-known artists.

“We can’t wait to open the doors to Durham’s newest ‘gallery’ on 28 November, and to welcoming guests right through Christmas and into the new year.”

A private preview will take place on Friday, November 27, before the public launch the following evening.

Shows will continue throughout December and into 2027, with vegetarian options available and other dietary requirements catered for when booking.

Tickets are available through 7paintings.com/en/durham , with further dates listed on the Radisson Blu Durham website.

Group bookings can be arranged directly with the hotel. Email events.durham@radissonblu.com .
