Kenyan pathologist inducted into global Hall of Fame
Pathologist and laboratory medicine specialist Dr Ahmed Kalebi Kenyan pathologist Dr Ahmed Kalebi has been inducted into the Hall of Fame of international publication The Pathologist after six appearances on its influential Power List, recognising his contributions to diagnostic innovation and laboratory medicine.
Dr Kalebi was named on the list in 2019, 2020 and 2021 before returning in 2024 following a three-year sabbatical. His sixth appearance in 2026 recognised his work in developing a digital-first laboratory in Kenya.
The recognition comes as Dr Kalebi Labs, which he established in 2024, approaches its second anniversary, with a focus on expanding access to specialised diagnostics through automation, digital pathology, molecular testing and artificial intelligence-enabled systems.
“This recognition is not mine alone. It belongs to the entire team at Dr Kalebi Labs, whose commitment to world-class, cutting-edge laboratory services and advocacy continues to drive our work here in Kenya,” said Dr Kalebi .
He says the honour reflected the efforts of his team to strengthen diagnostic services in Kenya, adding that African laboratory specialists needed greater international recognition while building capacity at home.
“Africa has exceptional talent in pathology, science and laboratory medicine. We need to create more opportunities for that expertise to be recognised internationally while continuing to build the capabilities that our healthcare systems need at home,” says Dr Kalebi.
His career spans more than two decades in diagnostic practice, professional education and laboratory innovation, with advocacy focused on pathology’s role in disease detection, treatment decisions and patient care.
As digital technologies reshape laboratory medicine, Dr Kalebi said innovation must translate into better outcomes for patients and healthcare systems.
