Newfoundland and Labrador issues 131 immigration invitations

Story illustration

Newfoundland and Labrador issued 131 invitations to apply on Oct. 9, its largest round since late August, the province’s latest draw under its immigration programs shows.

The province publishes each round on the Invitations to Apply Updates page of its immigration website. Canada News Media could not load that page during reporting, so the figures come from Immigration.ca , which reported the same total as the draw tracker ITC iLand .

Immigration.ca reported that 130 of the invitations were under the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) and one was under the Atlantic Immigration Program. Candidates were selected from the province’s Expression of Interest pool.

The outlet said it was the largest round since Aug. 26, when 140 invitations were issued, and followed a round of 41 invitations on Sept. 25. No minimum score was reported for the Oct. 9 draw.

An invitation to apply is not a nomination. Candidates must submit an application to the province, and nominated candidates then apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent residence. Immigration.ca noted that nominees in the Express Entry stream receive an additional 600 points in the federal Comprehensive Ranking System.

Candidates should check the province’s official page and their account for deadlines. Anyone unsure how a program applies to their situation should consult IRCC or a licensed immigration consultant or lawyer.
