2027: APC aspirants seek role in Tinubu’s re-election campaign
The House of Representatives Aspirants Forum has pledged to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, urging the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to integrate its members into the party’s campaign structure.
The National Coordinator of the forum, Hon. Mohammed Danjuma, said the group was ready to deploy its nationwide network, grassroots connections and political experience to support Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and other APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
Danjuma spoke while briefing journalists after a courtesy visit to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, on Thursday at the party’s headquarters in Abuja.
He said the forum, which comprises former House of Representatives aspirants from all 360 federal constituencies, was seeking to work with existing party structures to strengthen mobilisation, voter engagement and party unity ahead of the next electoral cycle.
According to him, the forum was not seeking to establish a parallel structure or compete with existing party organs but to complement the party’s efforts by making its members’ political experience and national reach available for the campaigns.
“Our intention is not to create a parallel structure or compete with existing party organs. Rather, we seek to complement the party’s efforts by making our collective experience and national reach available to advance the interests of the APC,” he said.
Danjuma explained that the forum was established in 2022 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to unite aspirants who contested but lost in their parties’ primaries and mobilise support for the party’s presidential candidate at the time, Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa.
He said subsequent political developments had led many members to join the APC, where they had resolved to channel their collective experience and organisational capacity towards supporting Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
The national coordinator said the forum’s presence across the country’s 360 federal constituencies gave it an extensive grassroots network that could be harnessed to strengthen the party’s campaign activities.
He added that members’ understanding of their respective constituencies and existing political networks could help improve voter engagement and campaign coordination nationwide.
Danjuma said constructive engagement with former aspirants would strengthen party cohesion and ensure that the APC made effective use of the political experience and organisational capacity available within its ranks.
He also reaffirmed the forum’s loyalty to Tinubu, the APC national chairman and the party, pledging that its members would respect the party’s constitution and abide by its decisions.
Earlier, during the courtesy visit, Yilwatda said no opposition party could match Tinubu, citing his achievements in more than three years in office.
The APC national chairman urged party members and supporters to translate the party’s numerical strength, including its elected officials and grassroots structures, into electoral support at polling units.
He called for unity and cooperation among party members, stressing that effective grassroots mobilisation would be essential to achieving the party’s objectives in the 2027 general election.
