The band announced another reunion in June 2025 after initially splitting up in 2003 and then getting back together from 2007 to 2015. Guitarist Bobby Burns and singer J-Sin founded the band in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1997. The two first connected when Burns’ former band opened for J-Sin’s former band. The band’s rap rock sound was a blend of J-Sin’s hip hop and Burns’ heavy metal inspirations. The lineup was later completed with the addition of drummer Josh McLane and bassist Mike “Jr.” Christopher. Primer 55 got a deal with Island Records after releasing an EP on the independent label Propellant Transmissions. On January 25, 2000, the EP was reissued as their debut album, “Introduction to Mayhem”. Relative Ash frontman Mark Harrington, Hed PE frontman Jared Gomes, and Incubus turntablist Chris Kilmore all make appearances on the revised and rebuilt album.
