TCN Contractors Equip Zaria School With Classroom Furniture

Contractors executing the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s (TCN) NTEP-TS1 Lot 1 project have donated classroom furniture to Zaria Community School, Jaja, Kaduna State, in a move aimed at improving pupils’ learning conditions.

The donation, made on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, included desks and chairs delivered to the school by contractors handling the project, which is financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The intervention is part of efforts to support host communities along the transmission expansion corridor, with the new furniture expected to provide pupils with more comfortable and conducive classroom environments.

Speaking at the handover, the Principal Manager, Project Management Team (PMT), Kaduna Sub-Region, Engr. Onaga Jacob Ugochukwu, said the gesture was more than corporate social responsibility, stressing that infrastructure development should also improve the lives of communities.

“When we build transmission lines, we are building for the community. When we equip their classrooms, we are building the community itself,” Ugochukwu said.

He added that providing pupils with comfortable learning conditions could contribute to better academic outcomes and help nurture future professionals who may eventually work in the power sector.

The donation was warmly received by pupils, who expressed excitement as they took their seats on the new desks and chairs.

The District Head of Jaja, Alhaji Abdullahi Muhammed, commended TCN, AfDB and the project contractors for extending the benefits of the project to the community’s children.

He said the gesture demonstrated a commitment to the welfare of residents beyond the construction of transmission infrastructure.

Muhammed pledged the community’s continued cooperation with the project and promised that residents would help protect power infrastructure and facilities in the area.

Also present at the handover were the Principal Manager, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), Ahmed Rufai Sani, and Senior Manager, Engr. Afeez Kareem, of the Project Implementation Unit (PIU), Corporate Headquarters.

The intervention underscored the importance of community engagement in infrastructure development, as TCN’s transmission expansion efforts seek to deliver benefits beyond electricity transmission to the people living in project host communities.
