2027 Polls: INEC Inaugurates Committee To Tackle Election Logistics
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has inaugurated an inter-agency committee to coordinate the transportation, security and timely distribution of election materials ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Electoral Logistics Committee (ELOC) was inaugurated by INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
In a statement published on its official X handle, the commission said the committee would develop a comprehensive logistics framework for the smooth deployment of electoral personnel and sensitive and non-sensitive materials nationwide.
Amupitan described logistics as one of the most challenging aspects of election administration, stressing that efficient planning and coordination would be crucial to the successful conduct of the 2027 polls.
He named retired Rear Admiral Jamila Malafa as chairperson of the committee, explaining that the involvement of military and paramilitary personnel, alongside other relevant agencies, would provide the expertise and oversight needed for the assignment.
The committee is expected to assess INEC’s overall logistics requirements and prepare plans for storing, distributing, deploying and retrieving election materials.
Its responsibilities will also include inspecting warehouses, vehicles, airports, seaports and other transport facilities to determine their readiness, identify operational weaknesses and recommend solutions.
The commission said the committee would monitor compliance with approved schedules and develop measures to address transportation delays, shortages of materials and security threats.

It will also work with INEC departments and state offices, government agencies, transport unions and other stakeholders to ensure the efficient movement of election materials.
Amupitan said the commission was determined to prevent any eligible voter from being disenfranchised because election materials arrived late.
In her remarks, Malafa described logistics management as fundamental to the democratic process, noting that its effectiveness influences electoral integrity and public confidence.
She said the committee would draw lessons from previous elections to develop a strategic plan focused on eliminating operational weaknesses and preventing delays.
Malafa identified air cargo planning, transport coordination, security arrangements and risk mapping as key priorities.
She added that the committee would coordinate the movement of personnel and materials to state capitals, local government areas and riverine communities requiring maritime transportation.
Difficult terrains, insecurity-prone locations and areas vulnerable to crises would also be mapped to enable tailored transport and security arrangements.
Malafa stressed that cooperation among security agencies, government institutions, transport unions, aviation and maritime authorities, and INEC state offices would be essential.
She urged committee members to demonstrate patriotism, professionalism, speed and precision, saying effective planning and coordinated execution would be critical to delivering the 2027 general elections.
