Elon Musk Calls For Zelensky’s Removal As Ukraine Questions US Support

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has called for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to leave office, as tensions grow between Kyiv and Washington over military support and the use of satellite communications in the war against Russia.

Musk made the call in a post on X on Wednesday, linking his demand to the continued fighting in Ukraine.

“And so the slaughter continues,” Musk wrote on X. “Time for Zelensky to go.”

The comments came after Ukraine accused the United States of weakening its ability to defend itself against Russian attacks by withholding warnings about incoming missile strikes and introducing changes to the satellite communications system it relies on.

Zelensky had appealed to Musk to restore the performance of Starlink, the satellite internet service developed by Musk’s SpaceX company. Ukrainian officials said the system had been slowed down, raising concerns about its role in military communications.

Musk responded that any disruption was the responsibility of the US government. He distinguished between Starshield, which he said was controlled by the American government and used by Ukraine for battlefield communications, and Starlink, a civilian satellite system that Ukraine also uses but is not permitted to deploy for offensive operations.

The dispute comes amid growing uncertainty over Washington’s commitment to Kyiv as the war continues.

Zelensky recently said he felt betrayed after US President Donald Trump announced a diesel supply deal with Russia, which remains under heavy international sanctions. The Ukrainian leader’s response added to tensions between the two countries over Washington’s dealings with Moscow.

A senior Ukrainian official also alleged that the United States had threatened in recent days to stop sharing intelligence on Russian missile launches. Kyiv uses such information to anticipate attacks and support its air defence efforts.

Trump has denied that the United States would withdraw the intelligence support, according to the report.

The American president has also criticised Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries, blaming them for contributing to fuel supply shortages and rising prices at petrol stations.

The dispute is unfolding ahead of key US midterm elections scheduled for next month, with rising fuel costs emerging as a major political issue for the Trump administration.
