Court Jails Two Boko Haram Members For Life After DSS Arrests
A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced two men arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) to life imprisonment for their membership of the proscribed terrorist group Boko Haram.
According to reports monitored by Ireporter Online, the defendants, Abba Mustapha and Bukar Ibrahim, both from Borno State, were sentenced after pleading guilty to charges bordering on membership of the terrorist organisation, providing support to the group and concealing information about its activities.
Presiding judge, Justice Salim Ibrahim, handed each defendant a life sentence on the first count and an additional 20-year prison term on the second count.
The judgment was delivered during the Federal Government’s latest round of mass trials involving suspected terrorists at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The proceedings, which commenced on Thursday, are taking place across several courtrooms, with multiple judges handling cases involving terrorism-related offences.
Other judges presiding over the trials include Justices James Omotosho, Binta Nyako, Emeka Nwite, Obiora Egwuatu, Hauwa Yilwa, Joyce Abdulmalik and Peter Lifu.
The ongoing exercise forms part of the government’s prosecution of individuals accused of involvement in terrorism and related activities, with the cases being determined through the judicial process.
