St. Mary’s Kitende win inaugural FUFA Academies League

St.Mary’s Kitende Soccer Academy emerged winners of the inaugural FUFA Academies League after edging Prosper in the final played on Sunday at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
To win, St. Mary’s earned a hard-fought 1-0 win thanks to Alex Ssekyanzi’s second-half finish from close range.
The two teams topped their respective regional leagues, with St. Mary’s leading Buganda while Prosper Soccer Academy finished top in Kampala Region.
It should be noted that the inaugural season was a pilot project tried out only in the Kampala and Buganda Regions.
Therefore, to determine the winner, the group/regional leaders had to face off in a final.
Prosper Soccer Academy led the Kampala Region group with 51 points, while Kitende, on the other hand, finished top in the Buganda Region group with 57 points.
Ssekyanzi was eventually named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, with Swaleh Maganda of Prosper emerging as the best goalkeeper.
El Cambio Academy’s Angello Samumba took the Top Scorer award while Watoto Soccer Academy took home the fair play accolade.
The League is expected to spread its wings to other regions of FUFA next season.
