STATEWIDE, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Department of Higher Education (CDHE) and Gov. Jared Polis say the ninth annual Colorado Free Application Days is back.

The event, which will run from October 20 to October 22, will allow students to apply to all 31 public colleges and institutions, as well as other private institutions, with waived application fees.

According to officials, all Colorado residents applying to undergraduate programs, including associate degrees, bachelor's degrees, and other credentials, can apply for free during that time frame. CDHE says it is posted fee waiver information for each place, because it may vary by institution.

“Pursuing education beyond high school can be a transformative step for learners at every stage of life,” JB Holston, executive director of CDHE said in a press release. “Whether students are graduating from high school, returning to college, or seeking new skills for today’s workforce, this initiative helps more Coloradans explore their options, take the next step, and build a strong foundation for long-term success.”

CDHE says students should begin working on applications now so they are ready when the waiver period starts. Applications have to be submitted between October 20-22.

CHDE reports data showing that only half of Colorado high school graduates immediately enroll in postsecondary education and have below-average FAFSA completion rates. It says over 75% of the state's top jobs require a postsecondary degree, which CHDE says highlights the growing importance fo education beyond high school.

“Colorado Free Application Days encourages more students and learners to take the next step towards a successful education and career journey. Last year more than 70,000 Coloradans submitted an application, saving Coloradans $2.4 million in application fees,” Gov. Jared Polis said in a press release. “I encourage all Coloradans considering college or career training to take advantage of Free Application Days and explore options, submit applications for free, and move closer to achieving their goals.”
