Hollywood Burbank Airport’s shiny new terminal is open for business

It’s taken over a decade and $1.3 billion, but Hollywood Burbank’s new terminal is finally ready for action. Early Tuesday morning, the doors opened to the public.

When the first flight into Burbank from Las Vegas arrived, shortly before 7:30 a.m., the airport was already full of foot traffic, with many travelers having arrived early to head off any issues.

One of those passengers was Charlie Murray, who flew into the old terminal with his family and was now going back to Colorado from the new one.

" It's way nicer in here. I like the new tech, so way cleaner for sure," he said. "It was pretty easy to find the shuttle, [so we] returned the rental car then it took us straight to here."

Burbank resident Jenell Morgan, who was flying to Sacramento, said she misses the nostalgic feel of the old terminal, but likes the modern look.

"This is my airport. If I can't fly out of this airport, I don't wanna go anywhere," she said.

For the most part, it appeared Hollywood Burbank's first day was going smoothly, except for some last-minute gate changes and incorrect screens.

Visitors note: The new terminal entrance has moved from Thornton Avenue to the intersection of Winona Avenue and Hollywood Way. There’s also a new central security checkpoint and an indoor baggage claim.

The project stemmed from Burbank’s Measure B, passed in 2016.
