Kano: Police Arrest Two Over Illegal Firearm Possession
The Kano State Police Command has arrested two 19-year-old men over alleged illegal possession of a firearm and recovered a locally made revolver pistol with two rounds of live ammunition.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, October 15, by its spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who said the arrests followed an intelligence-led patrol along Sokoto Road in Kano.
According to the statement, the incident occurred at about 10:30 p.m. on October 11, 2026, when surveillance operatives attached to the Farm Centre Police Division intercepted a commercial tricycle.
The police said the officers acted on suspicion before conducting a search that led to the recovery of the weapon.
“Upon on-the-spot search, one Rufai Ahmed ‘M’, 19 years old, of Hotoro Quarters, Kano, was found with a bag containing one locally fabricated revolver pistol with two (2) rounds of live ammunition,” the statement said.
It added that Ahmed was immediately arrested and the recovered items taken as exhibits.
Further investigation led to the arrest of another suspect, Aliyu Ibrahim, 19, of Kawo Quarters, Kano, over his alleged connection to the case.
The statement said the additional arrest followed an investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who directed the Criminal Investigation Department to extend its inquiries.
The Commissioner of Police directed investigators to intensify their work, adding that the suspects would be charged to court after the investigation.
The command also commended the officers involved in the operation and urged residents to provide timely and credible information to assist security agencies in tackling illegal arms possession and other criminal activities in the state.
