74-Year-Old Man At Risk Of Dying After Mqabba Attack

The suspect in the Mqabba homicide has been identified as John Cassar, the son of the two victims involved in Thursday afternoon’s incident.
A 72-year-old woman was killed, while her 74-year-old husband was seriously injured following what police said appears to have been a family argument at a residence in Triq Valletta.
Police found the man injured outside the property before taking him to Mater Dei Hospital for treatment. His wife was found dead inside the residence.
Sources indicated that the woman may have been attacked with a screwdriver.
Cassar allegedly fled the scene following the incident, with police searching for him in a field close to the Monte Kristo estate.
He later gave himself up to police following negotiations.
John Cassar is also the brother of convicted murderer Roderick Cassar, who is currently serving a 40-year prison sentence for the murder of his wife, Bernice Cilia.
Police are treating the Mqabba case as a homicide, while Magistrate Renata Farrugia is leading the inquiry.
