2027: NDC Secretariat Attacked in Edo, Property Destroyed

The NDC secretariat attack in Edo has raised fresh concerns over political violence ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections

Suspected political thugs have reportedly attacked the secretariat of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, damaging property at the facility amid growing concerns over political violence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The incident was reported on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, barely a week after NDC supporters were allegedly attacked during a political gathering in Enugu State.

A video circulating on social media showed damaged property inside the Edo secretariat. However, no casualties had been reported as of the time the incident was reported.

In the footage, a woman accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of responsibility for the attack, linking it to the earlier incident in Enugu.

“The last one happened in Enugu, where one person died. Now they have brought it to Edo. APC, your end is here,” she said.

Her allegation against the APC has not been independently verified. The identities of the suspected attackers and their motives also remain unknown.

There was no immediate confirmation of whether the party had formally reported the incident to security agencies.

The reported attack in Edo comes after an earlier incident involving NDC supporters in Enugu State, where one person was reportedly killed.

Following the Enugu incident, Governor Peter Mbah called for an impartial police investigation and warned that anyone found responsible should face prosecution, regardless of political affiliation or connections.

The latest incident has renewed concerns about the safety of political supporters and party facilities as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.

As of the time of filing this report, it was unclear whether security agencies had begun investigating the attack on the NDC secretariat in Edo or identified any suspects.

The allegation against the APC remains unsubstantiated, and no evidence presented in the circulating footage independently establishes who carried out the attack.

Further clarification from the NDC and relevant security agencies is expected to help establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
