Ruto Makes Bold 2027 Election Claim During Rift Valley Development Tour

President William Ruto is confident that he will defeat opposition leaders in the 2027 General Election, regardless of whether they unite behind a single candidate or compete on separate tickets.

Speaking on Thursday, October 15, 2026, during a development tour of Elgeyo-Marakwet and Baringo counties, President Ruto dismissed ongoing efforts by opposition figures to forge political coalitions. He argued that political alliances lacking a clear, actionable program for citizens will not secure votes at the ballot box.

“Even if they unite to the last man, I will defeat them because unity without an agenda for Kenyans will not win them votes,” Ruto said.

President Ruto criticized his political opponents for prioritizing electoral alliances over presenting viable solutions to the nation’s economic challenges. Characterizing his critics as “merchants of anger and discrimination,” he urged the electorate to back leaders who offer concrete development plans rather than those relying on ethnic coalitions to secure power.

“Kenyans want leaders who have an agenda, a plan, and a vision, not those who sell tribal arithmetic or are full of hate and anger,” he stated.

Reflecting on his 2022 campaign, Ruto maintained that the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) initiated a fundamental shift toward supporting vulnerable and marginalized communities. He stated that his administration continues to fulfill its policy commitments and challenged critics to focus on developmental priorities rather than seeking leadership without a strategy.

“Today, Kenyans are holding me to account for what I promised them. We don’t want people who look for power without a plan,” he said.

To illustrate economic progress, the president highlighted reduced fertilizer prices alongside improved farmgate returns for coffee, tea, sugarcane, and dairy farmers across the country.

Ruto also defended the Road Maintenance Levy Fund (RMLF) against calls for its repeal. He explained that revenues collected through the fund have enabled the government to clear pending bills owed to road contractors while financing ongoing infrastructure projects nationwide.

Pointing to the construction of 6,000 kilometers of roads, he noted that his administration remains dedicated to equitable development through investments in transport infrastructure, modern markets, affordable housing, healthcare, agriculture, and education.

Multibillion-Shilling Infrastructure Launches in Elgeyo-Marakwet and Baringo

During the regional tour, President Ruto launched and inspected several infrastructure and electrification projects across both counties.

In Elgeyo-Marakwet, the president inspected the ongoing construction of the Sh205 million Chepkorio Modern Market in Keiyo South Constituency, designed to accommodate 200 traders. He also launched the construction of 30 kilometers of local roads valued at Sh1.8 billion and flagged off a Sh632 million last-mile electricity connectivity project intended to power 3,169 households.

In Baringo, Ruto commissioned road construction projects valued at Sh4.2 billion to connect Eldama Ravine, Mogotio, and Baringo Central constituencies. Furthermore, he launched a Sh78.9 million rural electrification project targeting 343 households and officially opened the Eldama Ravine Huduma Centre.

Accompanying the President, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen warned politicians against utilizing public offices or state-assigned security detail to instigate violence. National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah urged voters to reject tribal politics, while Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot expressed confidence that Kenyans will elect leaders based on clear development records.

Concluding his address, President Ruto reaffirmed his commitment to executing the government’s development agenda, stating that he remains ready to be held accountable for all promises made to the public.
