Soludo Describes Support for Tinubu as Unusual Political Consensus
ABUJA — Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has described the political support expressed for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja as an unusual development in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Soludo spoke on Wednesday, October 14, during the inauguration, where he highlighted the participation of political stakeholders from different party backgrounds in support of Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The governor, who was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), said his party’s support for the President was driven by shared interests in national unity, security and economic prosperity.
Soludo also pointed to the participation of about 31 state governors at the gathering, describing it as evidence of broad political alignment. However, the participation of political figures at the event does not necessarily amount to a formal endorsement by every governor.
The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria also defended the Tinubu administration’s economic reform agenda, describing its approach as *pragmatic progressivism*.
According to him, the administration had embarked on reforms aimed at addressing longstanding structural challenges and repositioning the Nigerian economy for sustainable growth.
Soludo argued that the President’s economic decisions should be assessed against the challenges confronting the country before the administration assumed office.
However, critics of the reforms have continued to raise concerns about the cost of living and the pace at which the benefits of the government’s policies are reaching ordinary Nigerians.
Soludo’s participation in the APC campaign council’s inauguration attracted attention because of his continued affiliation with APGA, highlighting the role of cross-party cooperation in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Media and Publicity Team of the Forum of Chief Executives of Federal Parastatals (FORCEPA), in its review of the event, noted that Soludo’s remarks focused on economic policy, political cooperation and national development.
