APC Is Scared Of Our Popularity, Bothered By Peter Obi’s Popularity In Southern Nigeria And Strength Of Kwankwasiyya Movement In The North — Rabiu Kwankwaso
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governors are concerned about the popularity of the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Kwankwaso made the statement during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today , where he claimed that the Presidency and APC governors were worried about the growing popularity of the NDC, its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and the Kwankwasiyya movement in northern Nigeria.
“There is no governor and not even the Villa; there is none of them who is not concerned about the popularity of our candidate, the ticket itself and, of course, our party,” Kwankwaso said.
He specifically pointed to Obi’s popularity in southern Nigeria and the strength of the Kwankwasiyya movement in the North, arguing that the ruling party had yet to fully understand the changing political dynamics ahead of the 2027 elections.
Rabiu Kwankwaso says the APC has failed to understand the political dynamics ahead of the 2027 election, citing Peter Obi’s popularity in southern Nigeria and the strength of the Kwankwasiyya movement in the North.

Kwankwaso also attributed Nigerians’ search for an alternative to the APC-led government to economic hardship, insecurity and high energy costs, which have remained major issues in the country.
On petrol prices, the NDC vice-presidential candidate said the party was considering available options, including fuel subsidy, to reduce the cost of petrol if elected.
His comments come as political parties prepare for the 2027 presidential election, with the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket seeking to build support across southern and northern Nigeria.
