Yobe Sahara Restoration Project Wins African Climate Award

The Yobe Sahara Restoration Drive Project has emerged as second-place winner of the Africa Climate Forum Climate Stories Challenge 2026, securing a ₦3 million prize among 115 applicants from six African countries.

Project Coordinator Muhammad Musa attributed the achievement to Governor Mai Mala Buni’s consistent support for environmental sustainability and community participation. The winning documentary, “Where the Sand Meets Hope,” highlights the impact of desertification in Yusufari and the urgent need for land restoration and climate resilience.

The recognition amplifies Yobe’s desert-restoration efforts and encourages intensified action to protect livelihoods and build a greener future for the state and the wider Sahel region.
