The Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) is taking its investment mobilization drive to five northern regions, seeking to attract capital to more than 120 identified projects ahead of the Invest Ghana Summit in November. The 13-day roadshow, scheduled for October 11 to 23, 2026, will cover the Northern, North-East, Upper East, Upper West and Savannah regions, connecting investors with investment-ready projects and businesses with potential for expansion. The initiative, under the theme, “Driving Local Investment: Unlocking Regional Potential, Mapping Opportunities, and Mobilising Growth in the Northern, North-East, Upper East, Upper West and Savanna Regions”, forms part of GIPA’s efforts to translate identified investment opportunities into businesses, jobs and economic growth. It follows the implementation of the Authority’s flagship Investment Opportunities Mapping Project (IOMP), launched in July 2025, which has identified more than 600 investment-ready project profiles nationwide. Of the total, 128 project profiles came from the five northern regions, with the Upper West Region accounting for 45, followed by the Northern Region with 38, Savannah with 19, Upper East with 16 and North-East with 10. The projects cover agriculture, agro-processing, manufacturing, tourism, mining, renewable energy, logistics and trade, among other sectors. GIPA data from 1994 to June 2026 also show that the five regions attracted 100 registered investment projects with an estimated foreign direct investment (FDI) value of US$1.91 billion, largely concentrated in agriculture and manufacturing. The Northern Region recorded the highest number of registered projects at 68, followed by Upper East with 14, North-East with seven, Upper West with six, and Savannah with five. The roadshow is expected to strengthen investor confidence in the region and identify opportunities for new investments, business expansion and partnerships. The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of GIPA, Abdul Razak Baba, will lead the delegation to engage regional ministers, business leaders and traditional authorities across the five regions. The traditional leaders expected to receive courtesy calls include the Paramount Chief of the Sagnarigu Traditional Area, Ambassador Abdulai Yakubu Yoo-Naa; the Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Nayiri Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga II; the Wa Naa, Rahid Fuseini Pelpuo; and the Overlord of the Savanna Region, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I. The delegation will also visit selected investment sites and operating businesses, including Savannah Diamond Cement at Buipe and Baba Tree Company Limited in Wa, to assess existing operations and explore opportunities for expansion and collaboration. The Chief Executive Officer of GIPA, Simon Madjie, said northern Ghana had considerable investment potential in commercial agriculture, agro-processing, livestock, renewable energy, tourism, manufacturing, mining, logistics and cross-border trade. He said the sectors could support industrialization, create employment and improve livelihoods across the region. “Northern Ghana is no longer a frontier of potential. It is a destination of opportunity. Through this roadshow, we are taking investment opportunities directly to the market, building strategic partnerships and creating pathways for investors to take part in the region’s transformation,” Mr. Madjie said. He added that linking project identification to direct investor engagement would help accelerate investment flows into underserved regions and promote more balanced and inclusive economic growth. The roadshow also forms part of preparations for the Invest Ghana Summit, scheduled for November 16 and 17, 2026, which will showcase investment opportunities from across the country to domestic and international investors. GIPA is organising the initiative in partnership with MTN Ghana, with support from the Office of the Chief of Staff, the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, the Ghana Free Zones Authority, the Ghana Enterprises Agency, the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat and the regional coordinating councils of the five regions.
