A statement from the National Parliament’s Human Resources Department said George Hagety, a Human Resource Support Officer, attended the seminar in Fuzhou, China.

The programme was sponsored by China’s Ministry of Commerce and organised by the International Economic Cooperation Center of Fujian Province.

It focused on public affairs, governance, leadership and institutional capacity development, providing participants with an opportunity to exchange experiences and learn about approaches to public administration.

Mr Hagety said the seminar broadened his understanding of governance and institutional development.

“The seminar was a valuable learning experience that broadened my understanding of public affairs, governance, leadership and institutional development. The knowledge and experiences gained will contribute positively to my professional responsibilities and support the ongoing efforts of the National Parliament to strengthen its administrative capacity and effectiveness,” he said.

He said the knowledge gained could be applied to administrative coordination, institutional planning and support for parliamentary operations.

Mr Hagety thanked the Government and people of China, the International Economic Cooperation Center of Fujian Province, and the seminar organisers and facilitators for their hospitality and support.

The Human Resources Department said professional development opportunities help public officers to strengthen their skills and apply relevant knowledge to their responsibilities.

The seminar also provided an opportunity to strengthen professional relationships between Solomon Islands and China through educational cooperation and capacity-building initiatives.
