The Kogi State Government has declared Friday, October 16, 2026, a public holiday.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mrs. Folashade Ayoade, announced this in a statement, following the approval of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

Ayoade said the holiday would enable civil servants and other eligible voters to participate in the Local Government Council elections scheduled for Saturday, October 17.

She called for peace before, during and after the exercise, urging residents of voting age to turn out en masse to exercise their franchise.

The SSG added that security agencies had assured the public of adequate safety throughout the electioneering process.
