Elma Aveiro, sister of Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo, has suggested that the 41-year-old forward may never play for the national team again.

Ronaldo was reportedly suspended by the football federation following his walkout from the national team camp during the UEFA Nations League.

The Al-Nassr forward was said to be furious with head coach Jorge Jesus over his decision not to bring him on as a substitute during Portugal’s match against Croatia.

In an explosive statement, Ronaldo accused Jesus of “betrayal”.

Elma has now hinted that Ronaldo might have represented his country for the last time.

When asked whether the Al Nassr forward would return to the national team, she replied: “It’s more likely a NO than a YES. I think they’re both hurt. The situation has stalled.

“When we’re betrayed, it’s very difficult to go back to normal.”
