GIPA Profiles US$80m North East Investment Projects
The Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) has profiled investment ready projects valued between US$1 million and US$80 million in the North East Region, targeting investors seeking opportunities in agriculture, agro-processing, renewable energy, tourism and manufacturing.
The projects were presented at the North East Regional Investment Forum in Nalerigu as part of efforts to identify commercially viable ventures and connect investors with opportunities capable of stimulating regional economic growth.
The Principal Investment Promotion Officer, Mr. Yussif Mustapha, who represented GIPA’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Abdul Razak Baba, outlined the investment prospects and their potential to attract private capital, expand productive activities and create employment.
‘’The identified projects offer projected returns on investment ranging from 14% to 25%, positioning the region as a potential destination for investors seeking commercially viable opportunities.’’
Principal Promotion Officer, Mr. Yusif Mustapha
The presentation highlighted the importance of developing productive sectors that can generate economic value while improving local participation in industrial and agricultural supply chains.
A commercial agriculture, irrigation development, integrated rice production and milling, livestock production and meat processing were among the opportunities identified.
These projects could strengthen the region’s agricultural base by linking primary production with processing, storage and market distribution. Such investments could also help reduce post-harvest losses.
Also to improve the availability of locally processed commodities and create opportunities for farmers, processors, transport operators and other businesses involved in agricultural value chains.
Irrigation and Agricultural Development
Irrigation and water infrastructure featured prominently in the investment portfolio, with proposed irrigation systems along the Black and White Volta Rivers expected to support approximately 5,000 hectares of farmland.
The proposed infrastructure could improve access to water for agricultural production, particularly during periods of limited rainfall. Reliable irrigation can help farmers maintain production cycles, diversify crops and reduce their exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
”Proposed irrigation systems along the Black and White Volta Rivers could support approximately 5,000 hectares of farmland, strengthening the foundation for year-round agricultural production.”

The development of irrigation infrastructure could also create opportunities for private investment in mechanisation, agricultural inputs, produce aggregation, cold storage and food processing.
Also an inntegrated rice production and milling represent another area of interest, offering opportunities to connect farmers with processors and expand the domestic supply of locally milled rice.
An investment in livestock and meat processing could similarly support value addition by creating stronger links between animal production, processing facilities, distribution networks and retail markets.
These opportunities align with the broader objective of encouraging investments that extend beyond primary production to include processing and other activities that retain more economic value within the region.
However, the realisation of these benefits will depend on effective project implementation, access to financing, appropriate infrastructure and the ability to attract investors with the technical and operational capacity to develop the proposed ventures.
Renewable Energy and Tourism Potential
Beyond agriculture, GIPA identified opportunities in renewable energy, tourism and manufacturing, broadening the range of sectors available to prospective investors.
Renewable energy investments could contribute to the region’s energy needs and support productive enterprises, particularly businesses requiring dependable electricity for processing, storage and manufacturing operations.
Tourism development also presents an opportunity to attract investment into facilities and services that can support visitor experiences, local businesses and employment.
Moreover, manufacturing projects, meanwhile, could help diversify the regional economy and create additional markets for locally produced raw materials.
‘’The investment portfolio spans agriculture, agro-processing, renewable energy, tourism and manufacturing, creating opportunities for investment beyond traditional economic activities”
Principal Investment Promotion Officer, Mr. Yusif Mustapha
The projected returns of between 14% and 25% provide an indication of the commercial potential assigned to the identified projects. Actual returns, however, would depend on project-specific feasibility studies, capital requirements, operating costs, market demand and implementation risks.
For prospective investors, detailed assessments of land availability, infrastructure requirements, access to markets and regulatory conditions would be important in determining the viability of individual projects.
Investment Mapping and Summit
The projects form part of GIPA’s flagship Investment Opportunities Mapping Project (IOMP), which identifies, assesses and packages commercially viable investment opportunities to connect investors with projects across Ghana.
The initiative provides a framework for presenting regional investment prospects in a structured manner, helping prospective investors identify ventures that correspond with their capital requirements and business interests.
By profiling projects in the North East Region, GIPA is seeking to draw attention to opportunities that could support regional development while encouraging greater private-sector participation in productive economic activities.
The authority is expected to showcase the projects to the investing community at the Invest Ghana Summit (IGS), scheduled for November 16–17, 2026.
‘’The Invest Ghana Summit will provide a platform to present the identified projects to investors and promote investment in the North East Region.’’
Principal Investment Promotion Officer, Mr. Yusif Mustapha
The summit is expected to offer an opportunity to engage prospective investors, highlight commercially viable ventures and build interest in projects requiring private capital and strategic partnerships.
For the North East Region, converting the identified opportunities into operational businesses could support employment creation, expand agricultural production, strengthen local processing capacity and diversify economic activity.
The extent of these gains will ultimately depend on investors’ participation, project preparation and the successful mobilisation of capital.
Through the Investment Opportunities Mapping Project and the upcoming summit, GIPA is positioning the region’s investment prospects for consideration by businesses seeking opportunities in Ghana’s productive sectors.
