ウイリアムズF1、2027年は車名パターンを変更し『FW50』に。創立50周年を記念、2月の特別イベントでショーカーを展示へ

ウイリアムズF1チームは、創立50周年を迎える2027年に、数々の祝賀イベントを開催することを発表した。また、2027年型マシンの名称は、本来なら『FW49』になるところを、『FW50』とすることも明らかにした。

F1参戦50周年を迎えるのは、フェラーリとマクラーレンに続くわずか3チーム目。ウイリアムズはここまで、9回のコンストラクターズチャンピオンシップ、7回のドライバーズタイトル、そして114回のグランプリ優勝という輝かしい成果を上げてきた。

その節目となる2027年に走らせるマシンは、今年のマシン『FW48』から、『FW49』を飛ばして、『FW50』と命名された。ウイリアムズは、40周年の2017年にも『FW39』をスキップして『FW40』を使用している。

記念すべきシーズンを通してさまざまなイベントが開催されるということで、その皮切りとなるのは、2027年2月11日～28日にイギリス・ロンドン、ウォータールーで実施する『W50 Live』だ。ウイリアムズによるとこれは、モータースポーツの頂点に君臨した50年間を体験できる没入型ウォークスルーだということで、数々の名車の展示も行われる。

ウイリアムズ・グランプリ・エンジニアリングが製造した最初のF1マシン『FW06』に加え、1987年にネルソン・ピケ、1992年にナイジェル・マンセル、1997年にジャック・ビルヌーブをタイトルへと導いた『FW11B』、『FW14B』、『FW19』などに加え、2027年型マシン『FW50』のカラーリングを施したF1ショーカーも展示される予定となっている。
