Aptos Completes Investor and Contributor Token Unlocks

Aptos reached the end of its four-year token vesting period for initial investors and core contributors on Oct. 12, 2026. The milestone reduces scheduled monthly releases of its APT token, while separate community allocations and staking rewards continue.
Aptos Reduces Monthly Unlocks to About 4.54 Million APT
Scheduled monthly releases fall from approximately 11.31 million APT to 4.54 million APT, based on the Foundation’s published allocation schedule. The reduction is about 60%, consistent with the Foundation’s February tokenomics update.
The change removes approximately 6.77 million APT from the monthly vesting schedule. Annualized scheduled releases consequently decline from roughly 135.7 million APT to 54.5 million APT, excluding newly minted staking rewards.
Core contributors received an initial allocation of 190 million APT, while investors received approximately 134.78 million. Together, those allocations represented about 32.48% of the 1 billion tokens created at mainnet launch.
Community and Foundation Tokens Continue Unlocking
The completed vesting period applies only to investors and core contributors. Community and Foundation allocations follow a separate ten-year schedule extending into October 2032.
At launch, 125 million community tokens and 5 million Foundation tokens were available immediately. The remaining allocations were scheduled to unlock in equal monthly installments over 120 months.
An unlock makes previously restricted tokens available for distribution. It does not establish that recipients have sold them, and it differs from staking issuance, which creates additional tokens.
Aptos Foundation Reports Supply Reforms Are Live
The vesting milestone follows separate changes to Aptos’s supply rules. The Foundation said three governance proposals had passed and been executed. They established a 2.1 billion APT supply cap, cut annual staking rewards from 5.19% to 2.6% and increased gas fees tenfold.
Transaction fees paid in APT are burned, while staking rewards add to supply. The end of investor and contributor vesting therefore reduces scheduled unlocks without establishing that total APT supply is shrinking.
