The man killed in the plane crash south of Boulder last week was a doctor and teacher at the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine. Aaron Gingrich, 43, was an instructor in the Department of Emergency Medicine, according to a CU Anschutz statement. Gingrich and Isabella Gingrich, 3, both died the evening of Oct. 4 when their plane went down near Eldorado Springs south of Boulder. “We were saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Aaron Gingrich,” the statement from Anschutz says. “Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time.”
Gingrich and Isabella took off from Longmont’s Vance Brand Airport around 6:32 p.m. Oct. 4 and flew around northern Colorado for nearly three hours before the plane went down at about 9:31 p.m., according to a National Transportation Safety Board report released on Tuesday. Crews found the wreckage midday Oct. 5. The cause of the crash hasn’t been determined, and the investigation is ongoing.
