Albuquerque North Valley mosque project moves forward after appeal denied
Bernalillo County commissioners cleared the way for a new mosque in Albuquerque's North Valley after denying an appeal in a 4-1 vote.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Bernalillo County commissioners cleared the way for a new mosque in Albuquerque’s North Valley after denying an appeal in a 4-1 vote.
The Bernalillo County Commission denied the appeal Tuesday, allowing plans for a new mosque to move forward in the North Valley.
The project would relocate the Albuquerque Islamic Center to a site near Second Street and Alameda.
A traffic study must happen before any construction begins.
If that study shows mitigation work is needed, the building plans must include those changes before the project can move forward.
Traffic and noise drove neighborhood associations to fight the mosque.
People also brought anti-Islamic rhetoric to Tuesday’s meeting and other meetings about the project.
