Pickup truck strikes person riding a bicycle in Warren

A major north-southwest roadway in Warren was temporarily closed to traffic Thursday afternoon as police investigate a traffic crash involving a teenager on a bicycle.

The crash took place before 4 p.m. on Van Dyke Avenue, north of Eight Mile Road, according to broadcast reports.

Video footage shows police vehicles blocking traffic for motorists heading north on Van Dyke while police take measurements and photographs of the scene.

A dark-colored pickup truck can be seen near the bicycle on the ground.

Warren firefighters requested an emergency transport to the hospital for the victim. Police have closed various intersections leading to the hospital.

The teen’s condition is not currently known.

It’s also unclear whether the driver of the pickup was taken into police custody or whether they are cooperating with investigators.
