Bank Gaborone names Raboloko as substantive MD

Bank Gaborone, one of the local commercial banks, has named Tsaone Raboloko as its substantive Managing Director after acting on the role since July.

According to the Bank, the new MD brings a wealth of institutional knowledge, leadership experience, and strategic insight to the position. Raboloko has previously served the Bank in several senior leadership roles, including Head of Risk & Compliance, Chief Financial Officer, and most recently Acting Managing Director.

“His appointment comes at an important time in the Bank’s journey as we continue to build on the progress achieved through our turnaround strategy, strengthen our foundations, and position the Bank for sustainable growth and long-term success,” Bank Gaborone said.

“As we enter this new chapter, we remain committed to creating lasting value for our customers, employees, shareholders, and the communities we serve.”

The appointment is effective October 9, 2026, said the Bank.

Raboloko has been with Bank Gaborone since January 2018 and has held several senior leadership positions, including Head: Risk and Compliance and, since April 2022, Chief Financial Officer.

His extensive experience across finance, risk and compliance, together with his knowledge of the Bank, its people and the Botswana operating environment, positions him well to provide steady and focused leadership during this interim period.

The appointment comes after the departure of Olebile Makhupe as Managing Director of Bank Gaborone earlier in the year. Announcing her departure in June, the Bank stated Makhupe was to remain with Bank Gaborone until August 31, 2026 to ensure an orderly handover of responsibilities and support a smooth leadership transition.

Commenting on the appointment of Raboloko then, Bank Gaborone Board Chairperson Christo de Vries said, “On behalf of the Bank Gaborone Board, I warmly congratulate Tsaone on this appointment and thank him for accepting this important responsibility in service of the Bank. His executive experience, institutional knowledge and understanding of the local operating environment will support continuity, stability and confidence during this transition.”

De Vries added that the Board remains confident in the future of Bank Gaborone and is committed to supporting the Bank, its employees, clients and stakeholders. “With the continued support of Capricorn Group, the guidance of the Board and the dedication of Bank Gaborone’s employees, we will navigate this transition with care and purpose,” he said.
