Suspect killed, multiple people injured after shooting at Oregon elementary school

Police responded to a report of an active shooter at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, Thursday.

The suspected shooter was shot and killed, according to Sheila Miller, a spokesperson for the city and Bend Police Department. Multiple people were injured, including children, Miller said during a conference.

Two people were taken to nearby St. Charles Bend Hospital. The exact number of victims was not immediately known.

Miller said it was not clear who shot the suspected shooter. Hundreds of first responders and law enforcement officers responded to the scene, according to Miller.

In a statement, Bend Police confirmed the presence of an active shooter was reported at the school.

“Our hearts are with the affected families, our community and the first responders,” the statement said, adding that a reunification site has been established for parents and caregivers at nearby Journey Church.
