Soludo Describes Support for Tinubu’s Re-election Bid as ‘Unprecedented’

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has described the political support expressed for President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council as an unusual development in Nigeria’s democratic history.
Soludo made the remarks on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, during the inauguration in Abuja, where he pointed to the participation of political stakeholders from different party backgrounds.
According to a report by the Media and Publicity Team of the Forum of Chief Executives of Federal Parastatals (FORCEPA), the Anambra governor highlighted cross-party cooperation, economic reforms and the role of political leadership in national development.
Soludo, who was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), said his party’s support for Tinubu was informed by shared interests in national unity, security and economic prosperity.
He also drew attention to the participation of about 31 governors at the gathering, describing it as evidence of a broad political alignment around the President.
However, the observation about the number of governors present should not be interpreted as confirmation that every governor formally endorsed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria also discussed the economic policies of the Tinubu administration, describing its approach as pragmatic progressivism .
Drawing on his experience as an economist, Soludo argued that the administration had taken steps to confront long-standing structural challenges in Nigeria’s economy rather than postpone difficult decisions.
He maintained that the government inherited an economy facing significant pressures and had introduced reforms aimed at stabilisation, recovery and sustainable growth.
Soludo further argued that Tinubu’s understanding of public finance had influenced the direction of the administration’s economic policies, urging that the reforms be assessed against the structural problems confronting the country.
While supporters of the administration have cited its policy changes as necessary steps towards economic recovery, critics have raised concerns about the cost of the reforms and the extent to which ordinary Nigerians have benefited from them.
Soludo nevertheless maintained that the administration’s policies reflected an effort to address longstanding economic challenges and establish a foundation for future growth.
His appearance at the APC campaign council inauguration also highlighted the relationship between party affiliation and political cooperation, given his continued membership of APGA.
The FORCEPA Media and Publicity Team said Soludo’s remarks brought economic policy and institutional performance into the discussion surrounding the 2027 presidential election.
The forum also emphasised the role of public institutions in implementing government policies, documenting development programmes and providing Nigerians with accurate information about public-sector performance.
