Wike Urges Opposition to Acknowledge Tinubu’s Achievements

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged opposition politicians to acknowledge the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stressing that political differences should not prevent them from recognising policies they consider beneficial to Nigeria.

Wike made the call on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja.

Addressing party leaders, governors and other political stakeholders at the event, the former Rivers State governor described himself as a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while reaffirming his support for Tinubu.

He argued that belonging to an opposition party should not stop politicians from acknowledging what they believe are positive developments under an administration led by a rival political party.

Wike also faulted criticisms portraying Tinubu’s government as lacking direction, arguing that the President had shown a willingness to confront difficult national challenges that previous administrations had struggled to address.

On insecurity, the FCT minister expressed confidence in the administration’s ability to tackle the country’s security challenges. He also highlighted the proposed establishment of state police as a potential reform that could strengthen security operations across the country.

The proposal for state police has remained a subject of national debate, with discussions focusing on constitutional provisions, funding, accountability and the relationship between federal and state authorities.

Wike further challenged members of the Presidential Campaign Council to justify their appointments by delivering measurable results in their respective areas of responsibility.

He urged them to demonstrate their political relevance through tangible achievements rather than relying solely on the positions they occupy.

According to a review of the inauguration issued by the Media and Publicity Team of the Forum of Chief Executives of Federal Parastatals (FORCEPA), Wike’s remarks were among the notable interventions at the event.

The inauguration also brought together political figures from different parties, including Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.

FORCEPA said the event provided an opportunity to document the views of political stakeholders on governance, public accountability, security reforms and the relationship between political competition and national development.

The forum maintained that assessments of government performance should be based on verifiable policies, measurable outcomes and the experiences of Nigerians across different sectors.
