Why Zamfara LG Council’s IGR Improved – Commissioner
The Zamfara State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Ahmad Garba Yandi has attributed the improved Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the state’s 14 local government councils to transparency and accountability of Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration.
Yandi stated this at the presentation of the 2025 Audited Financial Statements and Annual Audit Activity Report for the 14 Local Government Councils and 19 Emirate Councils of the state.
The presentation was organised by the Office of the Auditor-General for Local Governments in the state.
The event was attended by Clerk Zamfara State House of Assembly, Mahmud Aliyu and Chairman House Committee on Public Account, Hon. Shamsudeen Hassan Bosko and some government officials.
The event also witnessed the presence of Directors of Finance, representatives of NGOs, CSOs and members of the media.
The commissioner announced that N3.9 billion IGR was recorded in the state from the 14 LGAs in the 2025 fiscal year.
Yandi said: “The IGR growth can be attributed to open government policy, transparency and accountability process of Gov. Dauda Lawal’s administration.”
He reiterated the Zamfara Government’s unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability and prudent financial management.
While commending the LGAs for achieving such feat, the commissioner reiterated the state government commitment to accountability and open government policy.
“What we are witnessing today is encouraging, as we recorded improvement in the IGR in the state even at the local government councils.
“I want to appreciate the efforts of the 14 council chairmen in the state, their management and entire staff for this achievement.
“I also appreciate the office of the Auditor-General for Local Governments for the authentic audited financial statements and the annual audit activity report for local governments in the state,” he explained.
Yandi said the state government would continue to improve the living condition of the people, especially in rural areas.
He called on the 14 council chairmen to place public interest above personal interests.
The Auditor-General for Local Governments in the state, Alhaji Aminu Mammaga, said the audited local government reports for the 2025 fiscal year captured tremendous achievements on IGR.
He noted that the 2025 councils’ budget in the state achieved 72.7 per cent implementation under International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) compliance.
Mammaga called on local government councils and staff to always comply with financial guidelines and regulations.
He commended Gov. Dauda Lawal’s administration for allowing his office to operate without interference.
