Shirley C. “Buck” Pagan passed away on October 13, 2026, at the age of 101, while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born April 6, 1925, to the late Joseph Sr. and Artie Pagan.

Buck was a farmer, and farming was an important part of his life. He also served his country as an Army veteran during the closing period of World War II, serving as a military guard and prison guard.

One of Buck’s most meaningful accomplishments was his many years of coaching. For more than 32 years, he coached baseball in Little League and Babe Ruth League, sharing his time, guidance, and care with generations of young players. He loved the many friends and players he came to know through the game, and his influence reached across many years of coaching.

Buck was also a longtime member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church, where he had belonged since about 1936. His enduring connection to his church reflected a life shaped by commitment, faith, and community.

In addition to his parents, Buck is preceded in death by his brothers, Wilfred Pagan and Joseph Pagan Jr.; and nephews, Melvin Pagan and Wilfred Pagan Jr.

Those left to cherish his memory include his niece, Artie Whittaker (Ron); nieces-in-law, Pat Pagan and Sharon Pagan; and seven great nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Shirley will be 12 p.m. Friday, October 16, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Yellow Creek Baptist Church, 5741 KY-144, Owensboro, KY 42303.
