A Warren County man accused of shooting a woman in both legs during an argument Sunday turned himself in to authorities Wednesday morning.

James Michael Hart, 51, surrendered to Warren County Sheriff's Lt. Stacy Rollison at about 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

The investigation began around 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, when a 39-year-old woman arrived at Merit Health River Region's emergency room in a private vehicle with gunshot wounds to both legs.

Pace said Rollison's investigation determined the woman and Hart had been arguing on Long Lake Road in Warren County when Hart produced a small-caliber rifle and shot her once in each leg before leaving on foot.

A warrant charging Hart with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon was issued Sunday by Judge Walter Armstrong. Deputies had been searching for Hart since the shooting.

Hart made his initial appearance Wednesday before Judge Randy Lewis, who set his bond at $75,000. The case was bound over to the grand jury.
