Charges follow non-fatal shooting

ST ALBANS, VIC. — Armed Crime Squad detectives charged a 41-year-old Ardeer man and a 42-year-old Ardeer woman overnight following a non-fatal shooting in the car park of a St Albans fast-food outlet at about 5.10pm on Friday, October 9.

With assistance from the Special Operations Group, the Ardeer man and woman were arrested at a Greenvale short-term rental property shortly after 1pm yesterday.

Both were interviewed and have subsequently been charged with:

• Intentionally causing injury;

• Reckless conduct endangering life;

• Discharging a firearm at a vehicle;

• Using a firearm in a public place;

• Possessing an unregistered handgun;

• Possessing cartridge ammunition;

• Two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon; and

• Relevant drug possession offences.

They will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.

Police seized a quantity of drugs, .22 calibre ammunition, shotgun cartridge ammunition, an Airsoft gas-loaded Glock replica, multiple bags of what appears to be cannabis, a taser, an ASP baton and multiple mobile phones.

The charges follow an incident where a 44-year-old St Albans man was sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle in a fast-food outlet carpark in St Albans when he was approached by another car.

It will be alleged a shot was fired at the vehicle, before a second shot was discharged and impacted the man in the lower body.

He self-presented at a hospital later that evening to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police believe the incident was targeted and that parties involved were known to each other.
