Tesco to hire 28,000 extra Christmas staff

Tesco has announced that it will hire 28,000 temporary staff to deal with the busy festive season. The supermarket says it wants to hear from anyone wishing for a job this Christmas. It adds that roles will 'mainly' involve working in Tesco Superstores and Extra stores either serving customers or picking items for home delivery. Shifts are said to be available right through the day, including early mornings and evenings, and applicants 'can find an opportunity that suits them'. Tesco's website says some roles are already open and more will continue to be added throughout October. The pay is said to be from £13.28 per hour (£14.55 inside the M25) and a night shift boost of £2.35. Tesco, which made the announcement on October 3, says there will be chances to move into permanent jobs after the festive season where positions come up. Ela Golab, Tesco Group's people services director, says the supermarket is looking for people who can offer 'warmth and enthusiasm' with no experience necessary. There is no need to have a CV to apply and anyone interested can find roles and apply at https://www.tesco.com/careers/en-GB/festive . Interviews are being held in person and are said to last 30 minutes. Ela Golab, Tesco Group's people services director, said: "We’re excited to be recruiting festive colleagues to help make this a season to remember for our customers. We're looking for people who can bring warmth, enthusiasm and a helpful service to every shopping trip. “We’re also keen to hear from applicants who may want to stay with us after Christmas and begin building a career at Tesco. No day is ever the same and festive colleagues will be able to feel the impact they make on every shift as they send customers home with a smile. What's more, no experience is necessary - just the right attitude."
